CAN YOU BELIEVE IT’S ALREADY HERE?! WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE?!

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL MICROPHONE DAY, EVERYONE!

Today we celebrate the acoustic-to-electric transducer that converts sound in air into an electrical signal. These little guys have helped people all over the world hear things come clearly for decades. Fuzzy, skinny, condensing — they come in all shapes and sizes.

Did you know Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. used a microphone to give his infamous “I Have a Dream” speech? Or how about that Chris Cornell used a microphone to record his voice on the classic Soundgarden album Superunknown?

Most “mics” today use electromagnetic induction (dynamic microphones), capacitance change (condenser microphones) or piezoelectricity (piezoelectric microphones) to produce an electrical signal from air pressure variations. And you probably may have guessed, but mics need to be connected to a preamplifier before the signal can be amplified with an audio power amplifier or recorded.
